Marketed as "Earth-Friendly Compact Fluorescent Fixtures," these Lethally Toxic MERCURY BULBS do use less energy and last up to four times longer than conventional light bulbs; HOWEVER, they are not "Earth Friendly," and still need to be disposed of eventually...
Therein lies the problem - and it's a BIG problem - MERCURY ! ! !
Used "Earth-Friendly" CFL Mercury Bulbs are classified as HAZARDOUS WASTE MATERIAL in all Fifty States !
Heavy Metal Poisoning hasn't been in the news since leaded gasolines and lead-based paints were banned in the 1960's, but with the backlash to ridiculous profiteering by Power companies creating a synthetic demand for lethally toxic MERCURY BULBS, Heavy Metal Poisoning is about to make a BIG comeback; and that is not a good thing.
There are really only two questions that you, as a consumer, need to ask yourself before buying into the fashionably foolish fad for "Earth Friendly Compact Fluorescent" Mercury Bulbs:1. "Would I rather throw away three or four used light bulbs made of glass and aluminum, or only one that contains a deadly toxin?"; and,
2. "Is poisoning Mice-Elf, my family, my community and my planet worth the few dollars I save by buying one "compact fluorescent" Mercury Bulb instead of three or four non-toxic conventional light bulbs?"

Until and unless such time as "CFL" Mercury Bulbs come pre-packaged together with vapor-tight, postage-paid mailing containers for consumers to return them to the manufacturers for recycling, they need to be taken off of the market! |
